Penny Arcade Expo

One year ago, I didn’t know what PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) was.  I think I am some sort of geek but not that kind.  I always wanted to go to Seattle so when my husband asked me to go PAX09 with one of his friends I had no reason not to go.  I had a great time at PAX09 and I enjoyed an extra week traveling to Mt. Ranier and to Victoria and Vancouver in Canada.  I had such a wonderful time in Seattle so I decided to go to Seattle again for PAX 2010.

At PAX 2010,  I became a big fan of Jerry Holkins & Mike Krahulik, the authors of the Penny Arcade web comic (http://penny-arcade.com)!  These guys are so funny and are very likable people.  You can tell they are genuinely nice people.  Several guys asked Jerry for a hug.. it was like a “Hey brother, you are super awesome!!” kind of hug.  I went to one of their demos and 2 Q&A sessions.  They are so funny that I laughed a lot. Also, I went to the main expo where all manner of game companies show off their computer games so people can see them and play demos.  It was very interesting but even though it was in a very large room in the convention center, there were way too many people invading my personal space so I didn’t stay too long.

Mostly, I enjoyed walking around downtown Seattle.  There are Starbucks on the corner of almost every building so you can smell the coffee all day.  The Pike Place Market is a fun place to be around and they have most delicious and fresh fruits in their stores.  Last year, we found “J Sushi” in the Seattle international district and we went back this year to have some sushi and say hi to Jay, the owner of the store. Also, I love to go to the Japanese bookstore in the Japanese grocery store.  We had frozen yogurt with fresh fruit on top.  It was very light and delicious.

One of our rituals while we were staying at the hotel was having breakfast at Specialty’s Café & Bakery.  They have delicious breakfast items and we enjoyed it every morning.

I found love for Seattle.  It is a beautiful city and you can enjoy trips to experience nature and you can even visit Canada if you want.  During my next trip to Seattle,  I want to go to Mt. Helen and do some hiking!!!  I hope I will see some of you there!

My camera’s been having some issue.  Finally, I accidentally broke it so I figured I might as well try to fix it!!

Oh well… That didn’t go so well.  I totally trashed it and got an electric shock from the flash capacitor…

At the Atelier, I began my studies by copying two-dimensional images of drawings produced by Charles Bargue (1825-1883).  These were designed to assist beginning students by teaching them to draw objects and figures realistically and accurately from life without using a mechanical method, instead relying on their eyes and by making comparative measurements.
